The latest retail sales index figures report UK consumers were spending on the high street in May, with spending in textiles, clothing and footwear stores up 4.2% in the month to leave the index at its highest rate level since November 2015.
Overall, the index is 10% higher than in 2012, the same rate as all retailing (inc. automotive fuel.)

The figures also show how purchases from textiles, clothing and footwear stores being made online also rose significantly to stand 12.4% up on the month previous. Illustrating how online has revolutionalised consumer behaviour and the need for retailers to make sure their online presence and offer is compelling and accessible, the index for online purchases via textiles, clothing and footwear stores now stands 67% higher than in 2012.
