The importance of the internet as a source of retail sales has continued to gather pace with online purchases made through specialist textile, clothing and retail stores enjoying their highest levels in the run up to Christmas 2015.
Average weekly sales were worth £124.3m in November 2015, up from £104.2m in the corresponding month in 2014. Indeed, the traditional January fall off saw sales still stand at £115.9m, over £9m more a week that in January 2015.
It is also possible to see from these figures how the fashion industry continues to lead internet sales in comparison to the wider non-food retail economy, growing at a faster rate. Interestingly, the figures show how sales made through these wider retailers closes in the build up to Christmas and falls back during the summer months. This demontrates to an extent how sales within fashion are less reliant on the busy Christmas period.
